Shower chairs come in all shapes and sizes.  They range from inexpensive resin constructed rigid back lightweight chairs, to retractable fold up or fold down, maybe hardwood chairs, to permanent shower-seats, built into the enclosure, maybe of granite or marble or just concrete that is tiled with the same tiles as the shower enclosure.

The shower chair is really useful if mobility is an issue for you in any way.  If you do have mobility issues then you will really know that getting in and out of a bath can be a difficult, perilous and sometimes humiliating experience.  You can avoid this sort of unpleasant encounter plainly by taking a shower instead and placing your chair inside the shower enclosure.  In this way you can enjoy having your shower, you can take you time, wash in privacy and not have any unwanted intrusions in order to support you in getting out.

The shower chair is specifically designed to be safe in the shower.  The materials they are made of are treated to be water repellant and are therefore totally water resistant.  They have suction devices, or rubber  soles on the feet in order to avoid unpleasant slippage.  Many chairs are also very light and transportable and so the use of them will not inhibit other members of your family who may not wish to share their bathing with a chair.
